Acne Can Be A Pain

The number of acne treatment products out there are as numerous as the grains of sand on a beach (ranging from home remedies for acne to prescription drugs). Below are some of the more popular treatments available as well as a small review of each product.

Proactive - Proactive is probably one of the most well-known acne products available. How can you not be well known when you have Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, and Serena Williams all advertising for you. Makes you wonder how much they get paid to promote the product!

Pricing: Proactive offers a lot of different pricing schemes as they offer quite a few products. Their basic 3-step product will run you around $20-$40 a month depending on when and where you buy it.

Review: The product works surprisingly well (although results will vary depending on skin type, and pimple/zit type). One downside is that it is a 3-step program that you have to do night and morning. This can be a little time consuming to say the least (but hey, if it fixes your acne, it must be worth it).

Accutane - No acne treatment products' list would be complete without mentioning this beastly drug. This drug will seriously suck the pimples right out of you, but at what cost?

Pricing: You can get the weaker 10mg accutane for about $1-$3 a pill. If you want the true zit sucking power of the 40mg pills you will have to pay around $5 a pill.

Review: Accutane works, no doubt about it. However you can only legally get your hands on some by visiting your dermatologist or doctor and getting a prescription. The price is pretty steep, but keep in mind that patients aren't usually on accutane for longer than a few months. Because of Accutane's power you are probably more likely to have side effects with this medicine than other acne treatment products.

Clearasil - If there were such a thing as a classic acne treatment, than clearasil would fit that category. Clearasil has been in the market since 1950 and is clearly a market leader. Most acne suffrers have at one time or another purchased clearasil. Usually it is the first medicine they try when they are just starting to develop acne.

Pricing: Around $7 for the normal bottle.

Review: I'm sure clearasil is a decent product, but it seems to lack the punch that the other big names have. You hardly ever hear anyone suggest clearasil to another person when that person is suffering from acne. It is almost as if we are robots who are programmed to buy clearasil at age 13 because Mom won't buy the more powerful stuff yet. After it doesn't work, then we move onto something that hopefully does. It's good for the price, but it usually doesn't get the job done.

Exposed - I feel almost bad putting this treatment on here, but it is gaining visibility (likely due to its affiliate program) so I feel obligated to mention it.

Pricing: Around $50 a month for their five piece kit.

Review: It seems like Proactive was the first to come out with a 3 step kit and since then a plethora of products have come to the acne market advertising 3,4, or 5 step kits. I'm sure this is a great product, but I don't really want to do 5 steps every morning and night.

*Update* I realize I was a little harsh about Exposed Acne Treatment in my review. The reason is that when I'm reading other's reviews I always check the affiliate programs to see how that is motivating them. Let's just say that Exposed is somehow magically making it to the top of everyone's list. They have the highest paid affiliate program in the industry.

Well hopefully that is a good list to get you stated on your research for the best acne treatment products available. Best of luck in your fight against acne.
